I love to take photos and I really enjoy having them around my home. Well I recently discovered that in those photos are some hip, cool, fun ideas for art pieces to give your home a new updated, artsy look. Trust me — a remarkable work of art is there in those treasured photos (you know the ones…stored on the computer or in those boxes in the back of the closet).

Try a few of these simple ideas – I promise they won’t break the bank!

Enlarge some of your favorite scenic photos (beaches, sunsets, mountain vistas, flowers) and make exclusive artwork for your home. Choose a group of your favorites and frame them  – you can save even more $$ by refurbishing old frames.

Another great way to use enlargements is to pick some photos with clearly defined subjects. Cut out the profile, mount it white side up on colored paper and frame it. This is like a Victorian silhouette with a modern twist! And don’t throw out the ‘mistakes’ – those photos that weren’t quite right (like the one of half a face), can be enlarged it to poster size and framed for a trendy, modern work of art. You can also use your photos to make a remarkable serving tray or a funky lampshade. For the tray – take an ordinary wooden tray. Attach your photos (a favorite trip, a beloved pet, you get the idea) via decoupage to the inside of your tray. Brush a thin coat of decoupage on top. (You can even add glass on top for more versatility). For the lampshade, attach your photos (black and white or sepia prints look super here!) to the lampshade with spray adhesive and embellish with ribbon, beads, etc.

All of these idea get your photos out of boxes and out in the open where you can enjoy them. It only takes a half an hour per project to create impressive and conversation starting art pieces! You and I both know you have some great photos…the kind that will turn into truly unique works of art in just a few simple steps. Come on and try it!
