America's Next Top Model
Twelve seasons have paraded by complete with high heel boots, long painted nails and skimpy halter dresses since America’s Next Top Model debuted in May 2003. Girls from all over the country want to be like Tyra and live the life that she is living as a “high profile” model and enjoy all of the perks that go along with it.
Desperately seeking that modeling contract along with various other prizes, 14 hand-selected beautiful girls from around the country compete in the first professional modeling competition. Sometimes the pressure is really too much to take, and cliques form, dissolve and reform as plotting escalates, adding drama to the show.
Tyra hosts the show and is a member of the judging panel along with Twiggy, J. Alexander, Jay Manuel, and Nigel Barker. The contestants are rated on runway ability and how well they take direction in photo shoots in addition to their appearance in them.
The show takes the viewers through the ins and outs of becoming a model while adding glimpses of what it is like to actually be a model (along with all the demands that go with it). This competition is uniquely entertaining and the contestants seem to be engaging…everyone has their favorite contestant each season.
The girls selected come from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. There is much talk among the contestants about the hardships they face in their lives and how participating in this show (and hopefully winning) can be the catalyst to move them past the difficult challenges they face.
