Duplicity
Like you, when I go to the movies, I want to be entertained. I want something fun and brainy, with a touch of romance and even intrigue. When I saw the trailer for Duplicity, it looked like our kind of movie. Duplicity is the new movie staring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. The director is Oscar-nominated Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton).
Oscar winner Julia Roberts stars as Claire Stenwick, previously employed as a CIA operative. Clive Owen stars opposite her as Ray Koval, a former MI6 covert agent. Since the spy game is fading, both are now employed as corporate spies working together for a multinational pharmaceutical company called Equikrom. They also find themselves in the midst of a clandestine romance.
Rounding out the cast is Paul Giamatti as Dick Garsil – head of Equikrom and Ray and Claire’s employer; and Tom Wilkinson as Howard Tully, CEO of Burkett-Randle. Ray and Claire’s assignment is to discover the top-secret formula being developed by Burkett-Randle and deliver it to Equikrom.
While Ray works the investigation with all the latest technology, Claire is working as a double agent at Burkett-Randle. The payoff for the company or individual with the patent of the formula is 40 million dollars. What the Equikrom brass doesn’t know is that Ray and Claire have a steamy past and a new plan – to double cross Equikrom, take the secret formula and the fortune that it promises.
Then comes the real duplicity; can Ray and Claire trust each other (even though they are obviously perfect together) or are they each playing the other ? Thus begins the intrigue with an array of plot twists and turns that keep you guessing all the way to the surprising conclusion.
Duplicity is funny, sexy, smart and well done. It is a charming romance in the midst of a pleasurable puzzle. Check out the trailer online.
