As summer blows into your backyard, consider gathering the brightest greens some beautiful decor. Forget about buying expensive crafts for your seasonal decoration; nature offers us most of what we need to create a tastefully adorned homestead. With just a few simple steps and supplies, you can create a wreath for your front door.
- Gather a basket of leaves from surrounding trees.
- While searching for leaves, stay on the lookout for thin vines or straw that you can use to form the circular base of the wreath.
- Mold your vines (or store-bought wire) into a circle of your preferred wreath size. If you use vines, attach some wire so that you may hang it without breakage.
- Use embroidery thread or twine to tie bunches of leaf stems together, and, beginning at the bottom of the circle, attach the bunched leaves to the wire form.
- Continue working your way around the circle, from bottom to top, until the wreath is full of leaves.
- Add anything else that complements the color style, such as ribbon, berries or small gourds.
This wreath will add an inviting, attractive look to your front door. You can also add a an old straw broom to the corner (with matching ribbon tied around the handle), to enhance the feel of country living.
This crafty project is simple and fun, while giving you a great excuse to wander around and enjoy the great outdoors. Got kids? They’ll have fun with this, too! Check out Country Living for further instructions and a visual aid.
