Spring is finally here! While enjoying my morning coffee and strolling through my backyard, I was cheered by the little green buds on the trees and the first shoots of flowers breaking the ground. After a long winter, it seemed that everything was looking for some sunshine! Just the thought of some much needed warmth inspired me to call my friends and make plans for a weekend escape. When they suggested a few days in Florida, I was elated. I could practically feel the warm breezes, see the swaying palms and taste the poolside cocktails. Then, reality struck like an unexpected snowstorm. Beaches mean swimsuits!
Now, I’m no model. I’m an average sized woman whose thighs haven’t seen a ray of sunshine since last August! I can remedy my pallor with a few visits to a tanning salon, but there’s not much I can do on short notice about the excess winter pounds I’ve gained. Suddenly, I wasn’t feeling so sunny anymore! I ran upstairs to try on last season’s bathing suit and indulge in some self-loathing. It’s a ritual that countless women endure annually. We stand and stoop, look front and back, aiming our critical eye at all of the problem areas and sucking in our stomachs. It’s funny how a spandex garment can erase all of our good work on self-esteem in an instant; but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Swimsuit manufacturers are getting savvier about our dilemma. They are making suits to flatter every figure. Finally, it seems that the industry understands that real women want to actively enjoy a day at the beach, not just pose alluringly seaside. They are making suits that we can swim and run and jump in without provoking a lewdness citation from the resort police. At Squidoo, you will find great advice on choosing the right suit for your body type. There are links to great shopping venues, offering swimwear guaranteed to please the toughest critic – You!
