To take a vacation at home, you are really going to have to be diligent before hand. Make sure your house is clean the week before. Get laundry and any heavy cleaning done before your week off. Otherwise, you’ll be tempted to spend the week cleaning. And you can’t. You’re on vacation, remember?
Unplug yourself. Take the phone off the hook. Turn off the cell phone. No phones. Period. No computer, unless it’s to play a game. No television unless it’s something fun. No news!
Every town has some sort of tourist attraction. Find out what’s going on in your own area or a nearby one and go. Pack a picnic, pack a book and some suntan oil, pack – nothing at all, and just go for a drive!
Catch up on reading! We all have books we wait to read because we need more time. Now is your time! Read all day if you feel like it. Visit the library and spend a day wandering the stacks in search of something new and exciting.
Take a day to revisit your favorite movies or catch up on new ones you missed while you were working so hard. Cozy up with your family and watch movies all day. Don’t forget to lay in plenty of sinful snack foods ahead of time!
Most of us have hobbies we long for during the year but don’t have time nor energy for. Spend a day scrap-booking or taking photos or writing poetry. Whatever you love to do, spend time doing it.
Play games with your kids. Remember those evenings of hide and seek and catching fireflies? Give that to your kids. Spend an afternoon or evening teaching them all those old beloved games.
Giving yourself time to regroup and relax without outside interference is an important thing. It doesn’t matter if you do it in a five-star hotel or in your own living room. It just matters that you get the chance to have fun!

Now this is my kind of vacation. Your suggestions are perfect.
Nice job, Kat! Love the ideas, and will have to plan a few evenings with the munchkins!
