Take a close look at your old sink/vanity and toilet. Is the sink chipped or stained? Is the suction when you flush your toilet hit or miss? Evaluate your lighting fixtures and chrome hardware especially if they are original in a 10-20 year old home. Those easy updates will add a sparkling pop of newness to the room.
If you have an idea of what you want to remodel first, make a plan and follow those products at stores like Home Depot or Lowe’s. Eventually, bathroom items will go on sale and you want to be ready. Maybe you won’t be able to get the exact vanity or light fixture that you saw in a magazine, but most times ‘close enough’ is good enough especially if the price is right.
Another way to add new life to an older bathroom is to lay a colorful tile floor. Ceramic tiles go on sale frequently even at smaller, custom stores. They must compete harder in today’s economy and can offer up to 50% or more off discontinued but unique styles of tiles that you can’t find at the larger chain stores.

Hey Diane,
Great article. Good ideas. I’ve got three bathroom from 1984 that need a boost. I’ll be looking back on this one when I have extra bucks!
Thanks!
