You’ve ordered the birthday cake, blown up balloons and coordinated decorations. Now, you truly want to find a twist to make it a party to remember.

For great fun and a blast from the past, here is an idea that can make a memorable celebration for the birthday ‘girl’ or ‘boy’ from ‘sweet 16’ or to centenarian.

1.   The theme begins with research on the birth year of the birthday boy or girl! Start looking for foods, candies, events and inventions to highlight. This will give you plentiful ideas from amusing things to serve at your event to unique one a kind ‘gifts’.

For example, if Kool-Aid was invented in the year of their birth, serve it; if M & M’s were introduced, have mini-bags for party favors. If a famous a store or restaurant opened it‘s doors, give a gift card for it; if Kleenex came out with tissues, wrap up a box for a humorous gift. Just about anything and everything is fair game.

2.   Next research the music, movies, president, sports, etc., for the year. Get CDs of the year’s music and you mix a party CD. With the other interesting facts, create a poster for the birthday person (you can write it out or just print it out). For instance, include things like best picture, president, World Series champion, and any other fascinating facts.

3.    Now, make a list of the famous people who share your birthday ‘girl’ or ‘boy’ special year. With some colored paper shapes, write the personality’s name on one side and their claim to fame on the reverse (i.e. Sean Connery – James Bond). Use these decorative shapes with birthday glitter around your cake for a centerpiece. These make entertaining conversation starters for the guests or a great quiz for the party!
