Have you seen the price of purses lately? With the economy forcing tighter budgets on everyone, shopping for a new purse is stressful! Add to that the difficulty of finding something to suit personal style, and updating your handbag may seem like too much hassle. I decided to be adventurous, and went online to find free patterns for making my own personalized handbag. I ended up calling a few friends and holding a purse party!

It’s easy and fun – and only takes one person who knows how to run a sewing machine.

  1. Find Patterns: You will find a variety of patterns online. (Or you can wait to choose one at the local craft store). From simple to elaborate, you’ll find the right match! Make a list of supplies needed for your pattern: number of fabric yards, zipper length, etc.
  2. Go Shopping: Meet up with friends and browse through the shopping mall. See anything you like? Here, you can get ideas for fabrics or colors that suit your style. Next, hit the fabric store. You’ll have more options than you know what to do with! Find that perfect piece of fabric, some matching thread, and any matching accessories (like decorative buttons). This is your chance to get creative!
  3. Party Time: Have everyone gather in someone’s home, and get to stitching! Everyone can help each other, share a few laughs along the way, and leave with a usable memento of the occasion.

Purse parties allow you to custom design additions to your wardrobe, complete a project with friends, and show your creative side – not to mention all the money you’ll save on that great handbag!
