Don’t let the reviews that read ‘heartbreaking’ turn you away from this outstanding drama available now for HBO subscribers. This true story bridges the divide over politics and leaves you feeling VERY glad that you took the time to watch.

There’s no way to sugarcoat this. You are definitely going to cry! Sit in your favorite chair, make sure the phone is on ‘machine’, and then plop a box of tissues beside you. I guarantee that when the credits roll at the end, the term ‘proud to be an American’ will have renewed meaning.

This deeply heartwarming and true story, written by Lt. Colonel Michael Strobel, follows his intimate journey during the days when he volunteered to escort the body of Lance Corporal Chance Phelps home for burial. Because he turned down the opportunity to serve in Iraq, Strobel hoped that volunteering for escort service will help reconcile his feelings of guilt. Along the way, he finds renewal in the respect accorded Chance’s military coffin from average Americans, and is humbled by the love and inspiration of Chance’s family and friends.

“Taking Chance’ is a reminder about the sacred trust between a government and the military. We can all disagree about how and why to put them in harms way; but, we’ll never disagree about the way our fallen heroes are treated for their last trip home.

You’ll learn a remarkable truth, too—that what happened to Chance’s broken body is not unique. Every fallen solider receives the same rigorous protocol and deep respect for their final journey home.
