We all remember the advent of ‘The Rules’. The bestselling book on how to ‘nab your man by not trying’ took America by storm. But do the rules really work? Can men really be manipulated that easily? It may not be that simple.
Men are wise to the Rules by now – but that doesn’t necessarily mean a turn off. Ellen Fein, who co-authored the book with best friend Sherrie Schneider, tells how she found her second husband when he even knew she wrote the book! So what is it about the Rules that makes them such a hit? Once you get past all the hype and hoorah, it boils down to self respect – you deserve to be liked by a man as much as you like yourself. A lot of the rules may seem silly and arbitrary, but when you get right down to it the Rules are about not settling for less than what you are worth. No one should be in a relationship just for the sake of not being alone.
