What is more fun than a pool or backyard party? The question is – how can you throw an extraordinary outdoor party and actually get to enjoy it along with your guests? So often you spend so much time being the hostess that you fail to take pleasure in your guests and all the party festivities.

With a little additional planning, you can enjoy more party time with your guests. Try these three steps to make your party the best on the block this summer!

1. The Menu – Place some simple and fresh finger foods (seasonal fruits and veggies are good choices) around the pool or outdoor area. For your main course, how about some skewers? They are a festive, easy way to go. Marinate chicken, shrimp, etc. and chop fruits and vegetables for the skewers prior to the party. When grilling time arrives, line up the prepared meats and accompaniments and let your guest create their own combinations. For dessert, think uncomplicated and refreshing. What about some strawberries dipped in chocolate or mango smoothies with a dollop of whipped cream?

2. The Set-Up – Choose your favorite music (beach, reggae, etc.). Place your appetizers on tables complemented with floating candles and themed accessories. The Party Theme Shop has some great ideas for decorating. Surround the pool or outdoor area with candles or outdoor lights. Choose plastic ware in bright colors for serving your guests (a greener, sturdier, and more economical choice than paper plates).

3. The Party – Be the first to get your guests outdoors this year! Throw the first and best party of the season. This one is so well planned that you’ll get to dive on in and enjoy it along with all your party guests.
